Nursery school design balances statutory requirements for space and staffing against commercial needs such as varying class sizes.
Good design is flexible enough to bear a “blip year” of under or oversubscription, with all the varying room size and staffing requirements this brings, whilst also creating an exciting and inviting environment for parents and children.
The typical solution involves moveable walls but these are expensive, not as durable as normal walls and not as soundproof. My approach is to use mathematical analysis to pick room sizes that can be used in different combinations to suit different requirements.
