In the same valley as Tintern Abbey, a few miles north, is the village of Brockweir with it's manor house. This main 5 bedroom mansion house had already been refurbished and extended, leaving an old granite-built coachhouse in a derelict condition with a collapsed roof and partially collapsed walls.
The refurbishment design looked simple – as if the walls were just plastered and the floor cleaned up but the reality was of a complete overhaul – complete damp lining, insulation to the walls, floors and roof, underfloor heating, oak flooring and, the most beautiful green oak roof structure to replace the collapsed roof.
The manor house and coachhouse is now for sale for £2.35M (Savills, May 2010)
