Designed for a very tight budget, interest is achieved by the open-plan main room (safe fire routes are maintained by fixed low-level storage) as well as the covered outdoor waiting area for parents.

The real cost in building design is external wall length and roof truss complications – the design minimised these by narrowing the truss span to give visual interest (rather than adding gables etc) and by making the covered area under the normal shape of the roof.
